Home remedies for damaged hair

Hair constitutes an important part of our entire appearance. Thus, when damaged, hair must be given the opportunity to regenerate. The state of hair can be improved by turning to both home remedies as well as professional treatments that many beauty salons offer. Today, we’re focusing on the former. Before presenting home ways of restoring good-looks to hair, let’s think for a while what it means that hair is damaged, how damaged hair looks like and what causes this weakened condition of strands.

Damaged hair is matte and dry, it has split ends, is brittle in unmanageable. It’s often confused with dry hair, although dry hair doesn’t have to be damaged. So where does this similarity come from? Damaged and brittle hair doesn’t let nourishing substances and water penetrate deep to reach inner hair structures.

How to recognize damaged hair?

To determine whether hair is damaged, you should try to tie a knot with it. In the case of healthy hair, the knot gets loose immediately, whereas damaged hair will remain in this knot form. In order to confirm this diagnosis, separate one hair and run your fingernail along it starting from its end and move upwards. If the hair starts to curl, it requires regeneration. Another sign of your strands being damaged is excessive hair loss. Of course, hair falls out every day, which is completely normal. So how will you know that there are too many hairs that leave your head daily? Well, you might start to worry if you notice a too many hairs in the bath drain after washing your hair and too many hairs remaining on your brush after detangling.

What damages hair?

There are many factors that cause hair damage. Among them we can distinguish:

  • ill-matching hair care
  • insufficient hair moisturising
  • too frequent and to tight hair tying up
  • low-fat diet
  • weather conditions: wind, sun, frost
  • unskillful hair dying and bleaching
  • overuse of a hair dryer, flat iron and curling wand
  • improper hair styling

Home remedies to restore damaged hair

In order to improve the state of hair at home, you should turn to masks and hair rinses. In the case of extremely damaged hair, you should reach for such products at least twice a week. The best results are created by applying a conditioner and covering the head with either a bath cap or a towel.

Protein hair mask for damaged hair

All you have to do is mix an egg yolk with a half lemon juice and a few drops of olive oil. Apply the mask to hair and let it sit for at least 30 minutes (wrap your head with a towel). Then, rinse with warm water.

Banana mask for extremely damaged hair

This exceptionally easy to prepare mask requires only to blend half banana with half avocado and mix them with three spoons of milk. Apply the mask to hair and rinse with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

Vegetable-and-fruit cocktail for damaged hair

Blend half apple, two spoons of spinach and two cabbage leaves. Massage the cocktail into hair and rinse after 30 minutes with lukewarm water.

Hot mask for damaged hair

Warm olive oil by keeping in on low heat and add a spoon of rosemary. Divide your hair into sections and drawn each one of them into this warm mixture. Wrap the strands with aluminium foil. Rinse the mask after 20 minutes. To do this, you can use either water or water mixed with a shampoo.

Hair growth accelerating mask

This potent mask is recommended to damaged hair that is reluctant to grow. In order to prepare it, you have to mix a spoon of oil, two spoons of kefir and 5 grams of food yeast. Apply the mask to hair and let it sit for approximately 40 minutes.

Hair strengthening treatment

Grate black radish, remove the juice and massage it into hair. Let it sit on hair (wrapped with a towel) for 20 minutes and rinse afterwards.

Hair rinse to strengthen hair (for brunettes)

Natural hair rinses strengthen hair and balance scalp. In order to prepare one of them, brew chamomile, lime or nettle. When the infusion cools down, pour it over your hair. You shouldn’t remove the hair rinse with tap water. Note: the herbs can be used only by dark hair owners.

Beer hair rinse for shine-deprived hair

In order to restore shine to hair, you can try pouring a glass of wheat beer over dull hair and rinse with lukewarm water later.
