The owners of short haircuts don’t have to wait long months to enjoy having stunning and long hairdos. Hair extensions are everything they need to carry out immediate hair lengthening. What should you know about this method?
Hair extension is a non-invasive beauty treatment that depends on attaching false hair strands to natural hair. Due to this simple way, a regular hairdo might win volume and length in a snap.
Most willingly chosen hair extension methods
Obviously, there are plenty of hair extension techniques. Each of them differs from another not only with the technique used to attach the false strands but also the effects a particular method creates. They can be more or less natural-looking, permanent or temporary. The most popular methods are:
- keratin hair extensions
- tape in hair extensions
- ultrasonic hair extensions
- micro ring or tube hair extensions
- clip-on, clip-off hair extensions
How long does hair extension last?
It’s the most frequently asked question when it comes to the subject of hair extensions. The second most frequently asked question concerns the best method of attaching the extensions. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this inquiry since the lifespan of the effects is linked with the chosen method of application. After all, there are hair extension techniques that enable to obtain an effect that lasts a few hours, e.g. for a wedding, whereas other methods allow to wear the extensions for a few weeks and even months.
Once we learn the hair extension techniques, and when we finally decided to transform our short haircut into tumbling curls, it’s time to choose the type of extensions we want to wear.
Real human hair or false synthetic extensions?
The choice between synthetic and human hair seems to be obvious – everything what is natural is better. However, it must be realized that when it comes to hair extensions, both types of hair have their pluses and minuses. The most important thing is to analyze all of the good and bad sides to choose the most satisfying solution that will match our expectations and, of course, the hair. Here are pluses and minuses of different types of hair extensions.
Synthetic hair extensions
As the name speaks for itself, synthetic hair extensions are made of synthetic material that is supposed to imitate human hair, yet apart from that, they have nothing in common.
Drawbacks: Frequently synthetic extensions look unnatural and plastic. The reason for that is the fact that synthetic hair has completely different structure than human hair which doesn’t allow the extensions to behave like natural hair does. At the beginning, synthetic hair extensions are too shiny, with time they get tangled and their colour fades. Moreover, synthetic hair extensions require regular and very precise combing because they have tendency to tangle and get frizzy easily. Additionally, they aren’t suitable to be treated with hot styling tools. In other words, you can’t use a flat iron, curling iron or blow-dryer on synthetic hair extensions.
Benefits: Synthetic hair extensions should be reached for by people who don’t want to spend much on such a procedure. Their cost is significantly lower than hair extensions made of human hair. Also, synthetic hair extensions are a good alternative if you want to boost your hair looks just for one night without ruining your budget.
Human hair extensions
Natural hair extensions are made of real human hair of various origins (Asian, European, Slavic, Hindu) which were cut and sold to create wigs and hair extensions.
Drawbacks: Perhaps the only drawback of human hair extensions is their cost that definitely exceeds the cost of synthetic hair extensions. The availability might also be an issue. Getting human hair extensions might be uneconomical for those who look for single-use hair boost, or for those who don’t want to spend much on such a procedure.
Benefits: On the flip side, it’s worth realizing that human hair extensions create the most natural-looking effects. They are thinner and lighter, they are easy to style, are more elastic. Moreover, they are able to just blend into hair and become indistinguishable unless somebody finds the joining. Human hair extensions don’t change their shape, don’t tangle or get frizzy as synthetic hair extensions do. Another important issue to mention is that human hair extensions can be styled as natural hair – curling or straightening of human hair extensions is possible and can be carried out as often as necessary.
